Consumers Credit Union's Community Outreach Is In Full Swing

Waukegan, IL, June 13, 2013: Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $604 M. Waukegan, IL), recently kicked off its 2013 Community Outreach Season. The Member-owned credit union is on pace to participate in more than 16 community events during the summer months. CCU's outreach program began early spring and continues through the summer with an impressive array of festivals, parades, fundraisers and community celebrations.

This year's summer schedule started with CCU's participation in the Round Lake Area Chamberfest & Expo on March 16th, followed by the GLMV Chamber of Commerce's Extreme Block Party held on April 27th. Still ahead are a multitude of neighborhood events and parades throughout the Lake County Area, which include the Waukegan Independence Day Parade on June 30th and Mundelein Community Days on July 3rd. Also on the summer schedule are North Chicago Community Days on August 3rd, Most Blessed Trinity's Tri-Parish Kermes in Waukegan on August 2nd – 4th, along with Gurnee Days on August 10th – 11th.

“Summer is a wonderful time to show our support for the communities in and around our branch locations,” noted Sean M. Rathjen, Consumers Credit Union President. “Long days and warm nights make this the perfect time to venture out and enjoy the company of friends, neighbors and family – and we want to be part of those celebrations. In fact, many of our employees volunteer their time to help out – some even bring their spouses, children and other relatives. It's all part of our responsibility to give back to the communities we serve – a philosophy our founders embraced when the credit union first started in 1930, and one we continue to support today.”

Team CCU is active in fundraising, too. The credit union's walking team raised more than $1,400.00 for March of Dimes on April 28th, an organization focused on the healthy development of children born all over the country (see picture). Additionally, CCU made a $5,000.00 cash donation to the Waukegan Public Library in an effort to help them expand their facilities used for its Literacy program which serves families throughout Lake County area.
