The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a Berwyn man in a factory accident in Elk Grove Village Tuesday morning, an agency spokeswoman said.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed 47-year-old Oscar Pimentel died from “multiple crushing injuries and falling heavy objects” after an accident at the flooring, countertop and landscaping facility of surface manufacturer M.S. International Inc., 1441 Jarvis Ave.
No one could be reached for comment at the company Thursday.
OSHA Regional Office spokeswoman Rhonda Burke said the investigation could take up to six months.
“It doesn't mean it will take that long,” said Burke, adding investigators are looking to see whether there were violations of safety or health protocols that contributed to the accident.
Pimentel's family friend, Daniel Benito, said in an email to the Daily Herald that Pimentel first came from Guatemala to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2000, and later moved to the Chicago area around 2005 with his wife and two children.
“Oscar loved his family very much,” Benito said. “Always working hard and looking forward to better his life, and that of his family, here in the USA. They were a devoted Christian Catholic family, and they were always looking for ways to help the community and supporting their parish.”Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
