Local Cancer Survivor makes Blankets for Cancer Patients

Jeffrey Pike of Buffalo Grove was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1999. He underwent a successful Bone Marrow transplant, and has been cancer free for over 10 years. Several months ago Jeff was watching the news on TV when he heard of a college student who was making fleece throws and passing them out to cancer patients at her local hospital. Jeff was moved by the story and immediately said to his wife Marilyn, "I could do that." Jeff committed to make 100 blankets and donate them to Lutheran General, the hospital where he won his battle with Cancer. Jeff, owner of ARA Cabinets 4 U in Wheeling, has been spending his free time this year purchasing fleece and making blankets. Marilyn has been assisting Jeff in his project by helping him choose fabric as well as working along side him as they cut strips and tie knots around the perimeter of each throw. Jeff recently completed his 75th blanket, and is looking forward to reaching his goal of making 100 blankets. Jeff is an active believer in "Paying it Forward" and gets much pleasure in helping others in any way he can.
