Dining events: Retro Bistro celebrates with prix-fixe menu

To mark its 23rd anniversary, Retro Bistro in Mount Prospect is celebrating Friday through Sunday with a special prix-fixe menu, live entertainment and gift bags. Menu items include braised rabbit, Copper River wild salmon with garlic whistles, prime beef tenderloin with a cognac black peppercorn sauce, and desserts such as profiteroles au chocolate, creme brulee, strawberry shortcake and mango cheesecake. $40 per person, plus tax and tip.Retro Bistro, 1746 W. Amaury goes vegan

Chef Amaury in Aurora hosts a five-course vegan dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19. The menu includes arugula flatbread, cream of asparagus soup, pea ravioli in a mint pea sauce with carrots and spinach, braised wild mushrooms with olive oil-poached grape tomatoes and farro and bittersweet chocolate cake with a raspberry sorbet. $55 per person, tax and gratuity not included.

Race with the Renaissance Schaumburg

As part of Renaissance Hotels' national day of discovery, the Schaumburg property brings horse-racing experts to a bridle, beef and brew event from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, on the Terrace outdoor lounge. Menu items include brisket sandwiches on a mini brioche bun topped with fennel and blue cheese slaw, hanger steak with beef-fat fries and pickled ramp chimichurri, and rib-eye.
