Boomers get bounced by Slammers

The Schaumburg Boomers suffered a 13-5 loss to the Joliet Slammers in the series finale on Sunday but still took two of three to win the series.

The Boomers took a 1-0 lead in the first, opening the scoring for the first time in the series. Gerard Hall tripled and scored on Frank Pfister’s sacrifice fly.

Joliet came back to tie the game with a run in the third, added 2 in the fourth inning and 5 in the fifth to open an 8-1 lead. Boomers starter and loser Cody Griebling allowed 7 runs in 423 innings.

The Boomers collected 10 hits, 7 for extra bases, and have recorded double-digit hits in six straight contests. Pfister had 3 RBI, while Hall, Steve McQuail and Brian McConkey each had a pair of hits.

The Boomers (13-9) are off today before beginning a six-game road trip Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Windy City. Right-hander Mike Giovenco (1-2, 3.46) starts for the Boomers against righty Daniel Cropper (1-1, 6.00).
