Elgin Area School District U-46 has created a bit of stir with plans to change its grading policy for the next school year.

As Daily Herald staff writer Tara Garcia Mathewson reported, students who don't do their work will receive a 50 instead of a zero. Critics argue that such a change will allow students to do only half of their assignments and still pass, and that some students are already trying to figure out how much work they can skip and still receive a decent grade.
