Des Plaines man charged with child solicitation

A Des Plaines man has been charged with soliciting sex from an undercover Elmhurst police officer posing online as a 15-year-old girl, police said Friday.

Jeffrey Mytnik, 28, of the 1700 block of East Forest Avenue, was arrested in May after investigators confronted him at an undisclosed location on the 800 block of North York Road in Elmhurst, according to a news release.

Police said the arrest was the result of ongoing efforts to “prevent and detect computer-related crimes and unlawful sexual predatory-type offenses against children.” During the investigation, they said, Mytnik solicited sex while corresponding online with an officer he believed to be a juvenile.

Mytnik, who is identified in court records as a chemist, was charged with indecent solicitation of a child. He also was charged with cannabis possession and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers found a glass smoking pipe and a small amount of marijuana, authorities said.

Mytnik is free on bond and set to appear Tuesday in front of DuPage County Judge Daniel Guerin. His attorney could not be reached for comment.
