• A 15-year-old boy from Carpentersville was charged June 4 with theft over $300 and criminal damage to property, police said. He was formally petitioned into juvenile court and released to his mother.

• A 15-year-old boy from Algonquin was charged June 5 with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor, police said. He was arrested at Highland Avenue and Longwood Drive, referred to the Tri County Area Peer Jury and released to his mother, police said.

Huntley

• Alejandro M. Valdez, 19, of 10982 Preston Parkway, Huntley, was charged May 27 with retail theft and possession of marijuana, according to a police report. Valdez posted bond and was released with a Kane County court date of July 1 on the retail theft charge and a McHenry County court date of June 14 on the possession of marijuana charge.

• A deceptive practice report was taken in the 13300 block of Bluebird Lane May 31, in which a woman said she was the victim of a scam, police said. The woman received and cashed a fraudulent check from a claim service in Canada, then was told to buy prepaid cards for the check amount. The woman later presented the scammer with the card numbers then realized the scammer cashed the cards, police said.
