Runners and Families Raise $40,000 for Hephzibah Children's Association at 13th Annual Hoof It for Hephzibah

June 3, 2013 – Glen Ellyn, Ill. – For the last 13 years, runners and families throughout Illinois have gathered on Memorial Day to support Hephzibah Children's Association, a non-profit agency that has provided safety and care to Illinois' most vulnerable children. The annual Hoof It for Hephzibah features a 5K fun run throughout Glen Ellyn and races for kids ages 2 through 12 at Newton Park.

Hoof It also provides the children residing at Hephzibah the opportunity to interact with other kids in the community for a day in a manner that makes it impossible to tell who's from Hephzibah and who's from Glen Ellyn. For a morning in May, they're all just kids running races.

Jared Fry from Lisle recorded the fastest time for males this year at 17 minutes 55 seconds. Karrie Hamstra-Wright from Chicago recorded the fasted time for females at 19 minutes 23 seconds. More than 100 kids participated in the “Hop It” races which included 50 yard dash and quarter mile races.

$40,000 was raised for Hephzibah Children's Association by runners and sponsors of the event. Hephzibah's diagnostic shelter and residence provides care for severely abused children throughout the state, as well as a wide range of family support programs including day care, foster care and adoption services.
