Man dead in freight train accident in Geneva

Police are still working to identify the man who was killed by a freight train Tuesday morning on the Union Pacific line through Geneva.

The incident was reported at 8:45 a.m. The train hit the person near Peck and Keslinger roads, and the body was found in the 2000 block of Gary Lane, about one mile east, police said.

Train traffic, including Metra commuter service to Elburn, was halted for several hours during the investigation.

Officials from the Kane County Sheriff’s Department, and police departments from Elburn, St. Charles, Metra and the Union Pacific Railroad assisted in the investigation.

The train was equipped with a camera that records activity in front of it, and the railroad police will download the data and provide it to Geneva police.
