After four seasons, Elgin softball coach Chad Dahlman is stepping down, he said Thursday.
“I have a 2-year old at home and I feel I can’t put the time in anymore,” said Dahlman, a Larkin graduate who played baseball for the Royals. “It’s not fair to my family or the girls on the team that I can’t put in the time both deserve.”
Dahlman was 66-67 in his four years, winning a regional with a 12-26 record his first season. The Maroons won 20 games in each of the last two seasons and finished 14-15 this season after Thursday’s 4-3 loss in eight innings to South Elgin in the semifinals of the Class 4A St. Charles North regional.
The Maroons graduate only three of their 15 players.
“I’d like to thank (former AD) Gwen Poore and (current AD) Paul Pennington for giving me the opportunity,” said Dahlman, who was also an assistant softball coach under Larry Hight at Larkin. “It’s a great group of girls and they have a solid core coming back for next year.”Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc.
