A complaint the village of Palatine filed more than a year ago against former village Councilman Warren Kostka will go to trial at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
The complaint outlines numerous property violations at Kostka’s house on the 100 block of North Forest Avenue. The legal dispute appeared headed toward a resolution after several court hearings, but officials said issues remain.
Kostka, who served between 1997 and 2005, claims the village caused severe flooding on his property when it disconnected its combined sewer system, resulting in structural damage. He has asked the village to purchase the property, but the council ruled against the move in January 2012.
Among the violations on Kostka’s property alleged in the village’s initial complaint were deep trenches with unstable and hazardous side slopes, sand bags, fabric fencing, a broken glass pane, a driveway in disrepair, piles of asphalt, garbage and refuse and missing siding, handrails and garage door paint.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc.
