Boomers rally for third straight win

The Schaumburg Boomers rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn a 6-5 win over the visiting Washington Wild Things on Saturday night and improve to 3-0 this season.

The Wild Things led 4-2 in the eighth and had limited the Boomers to 3 hits. But the Boomers batted around and collected 5 hits in the inning, scoring 4 runs after two outs. Chad Mozingo’s two-out single drove home Craig Hertler (2-for-2) to bring the Boomers within 4-3. Brian McConkey delivered a 2-run triple to right and Sean Mahley capped the rally with an RBI single.

Dexter Price earned the win in relief, and James Jones nailed down the win on a strikeout with the tying run at third in the ninth.

The Boomers’ Cody Griebling started and worked 6 innings with 5 strikeouts but did not figure in the decision.

The Boomers (3-0) host the Wild Things today on Family Sunday at 1 p.m. Boomers converted right-handed reliever Joe Parsons will make his first pro start against right-hander Shawn Blackwell.
