Fast Facts: Waubonsie Valley won 2-0 in the first battle this season between these conference and district rivals back on March 30. The two teams come in going in different directions, as well. Metea, the sectional's sixth seed, went 0-2-1 in the three games prior to its 5-0 win over Plainfield Central in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Waubonsie is on a roll, winners of nine straight after its 5-0 win over Plainfield East in the semifinals. The Warriors are also hungry. The state's premier team for most of the last decade, winners of state and national championships in 2007 and 2008 and state champions in 2010, saw their string of five straight regional titles snapped at the hands of the third Indian Prairie School District rival, Neuqua Valley, last spring. Seniors Armand (Louisville) and Romano (Wake Forest) lead the way, but the Warriors feature one of the best freshman classes in the state, as well. Filipek, Laws and Masiak all fortify a diverse and deep offensive attack. Metea won its first regional title in the school's short history last year. Geldernick has been a stalwart in goal for the Mustangs. Kentgen is the team's leading scorer, Fox solidifies the midfield while also providing some offensive punch and co-captain Butler spearheads the defense in front of Geldernick. The winner advances to the Wednesday, May 22 6:30 p.m. Class 4A Bolingbrook Sectional semifinal against either Oswego or Plainfield North.
