Teen Talent Show auditions happening in June

AURORA – Live auditions for the Aurora Public Library's Fifth Annual Teen Talent Show and Competition are set for June 12, 13 and 15 at three library locations.

Auditions are limited to 3-1/2 minutes. All talents are welcome, and competitors do not need to be Aurora residents. Those who audition must be between the ages of 12 and 18 on the date of the competition, Aug. 10, 2013.

Audition times and dates are:

• 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12 at the Eola Road Branch Library, 555 S. Eola Road

• 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at the West Branch, 233 S. Constitution Drive

• 10 to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at the Main Library, 1 E. Benton St.

A signed parental permission form (available at the auditions) is required. Performances will be judged by members of the Young Adult Committee of the Aurora Public Library. A CD player will be available for those singing to a background track. Performers will audition on a first come-first served basis. Finalists, who will advance to the Aug. 10 competition, will be notified by phone or email.

The Fifth Annual competition, planned by Aurora Public Library's three young adult librarians, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Copley Theatre in downtown Aurora. The show will be emceed by KISS-FM disc jockey Special K. Guest judge is Jim Corti, artistic director for the Paramount Theatre. Both the audition and the competition are free.

Last year's winner was Kristin Rios of North Aurora, a ninth-grader at Aurora Central Catholic High School. She will be the guest performer at this year's show.

The winner will receive a trophy. The performers, returning winner, hosts, judges and teen volunteers all donate their time and efforts to this community event.
