Household hazardous waste:

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County’s first household chemical waste collection event of the season is 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Vernon Hills Metra Train Station at Route 45 and Ranney Drive. All HCW collections are for residential waste only. Allowed items include: CFL bulbs, unwanted prescription medicines and supplements (people and pet), household cleaners, gasoline, garden chemicals, pesticides, oil-based paints and varnishes (no latex), as well as other chemicals. Visit www.swalco.org for a general list of items accepted and not accepted at collection events. The free events are open to Illinois residents. Business waste will not be accepted.

Antioch garden club plant sale:

The annual Antioch Garden Club perennial plant sale is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Centennial Park pavilion, 701 Anita Ave., between Depot Street and North Avenue, Antioch. Hundreds of member-grown perennials, vegetable seedlings and houseplants from members’ gardens, as well as homemade bake sale items will be available. Proceeds help fund the purchase and maintenance of Antioch’s four perennial gardens, Arbor Day tree purchases and horticultural scholarships. Visit antiochgardenclub.org or call (847) 395-8902.

Grant Township installation:

Grant Township officials will be installed in office at 6:15 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Grant Township Center, 26725 W. Molidor Road, Ingleside. The installation session will be conducted 45 minutes before the regularly scheduled Grant Township monthly board meeting.
