Funds will be available from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the 2013-14 project year.

Applications are available now and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, May 31.

Overall objectives of the program are to financially assist homeowners in making exterior maintenance type repairs, to improve the quality and safety of the existing housing stock, and to foster community pride. The program makes outright grants available to low and moderate income households. Owners may qualify up to a maximum of $10,000 or $15,000, depending on the household income. Applicants must meet the Federal HUD income guidelines to qualify.

Owners may request an application by calling (847) 931-5939, City of Elgin Community Development Department, 150 Dexter Court, Elgin, IL 60120.

A random selection of approximately 20-50 properties will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, in the lobby of city hall, 150 Dexter Court, Elgin, and an eligibility list established for grant distribution after proper income qualification and project eligibility is conducted. Applicants are welcome to attend the random selection meeting.
