Good job, Corey; now Hawks await second-round opponent
Even though the Blackhawks still have a lot of work to do, Corey Crawford finally won the first playoff series of his career last night at the United Center. With Crawford making 22 saves, the Hawks eliminated the Minnesota Wild with a 5-1 victory in Game 5 to take the first-round series 4 games to 1. Not only was it Crawford’s first series win, but it was the Hawks’ first as a team since they won the Stanley Cup in 2010. Full story.
After 8-year absence, Charles Amrich mayor again in Island Lake
After an eight-year absence, Charles Amrich is once again mayor of Island Lake. Amrich, the town’s elected leader from 1985 to 2005, was sworn in Thursday at village hall, along with four of his political allies. Full story.

Body found near Salt Creek identified
The body of a man found near Salt Creek in Oak Brook last month has been identified. The DuPage County coroner’s office on yesterday confirmed the identity of Michael Hardin, 49. Hardin’s address was unconfirmed, the coroner’s office said. Full story.

South Barrington supports Rt. 14 underpass in Barrington
One of the first actions of new South Barrington Village President Paula McCombie’s administration last night was to pass a resolution supporting a Route 14 underpass at the Canadian National Railway crossing in neighboring Barrington. The South Barrington village board’s vote came on the last day the village of Barrington and Illinois Department of Transportation were officially accepting public input on whether to build an overpass or an underpass or do nothing where Route 14 and the CN tracks cross. Exhaust fan blamed for Naperville house fire
Naperville firefighters said a malfunctioning bathroom ceiling exhaust fan caused a fire last night at a home on the 2700 block of Pennyroyal Circle. At 6:38 p.m., firefighters received the first of several 911 calls from neighbors reporting smoke and fire coming out of the roof of the house. Full story.
Sikh temple to hold Interfaith celebration in Palatine
An organization created to cultivate harmony among the world’s religious and spiritual communities will hold an interfaith celebration Saturday in Palatine. The Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions event, free and open to the public, will feature music, prayer and conversation from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Sikh Religious Society’s Gurdwara Sahib. Now tied at 1-1, the Bulls will try to bring an A-level performance to Game 3 tonight at the United Center (7 p.m., ESPN). Coach Tom Thibodeau offered his own description of the first two games in Miami. “We imposed our will in Game 1.
