Man charged in murder of college student

First-degree murder charges have been filed against a Chicago man in the death of a Columbia College student.

Jerome Brown was ordered held without bond Friday in the death of 19-year-old Kevin Ambrose. The theater major was walking to an elevated train station late Tuesday to meet his friend and escort him to his home when he was shot in the back. Ambrose later died at Stroger Hospital.

Chicago police say the 26-year-old Brown has been positively identified as the person who got out a light-colored sedan and attacked Ambrose.

Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jacqueline Kwilos said that after the shooting, Brown drove by the scene and was pointed out to police by witnesses. Authorities haven’t given a motive for the shooting.
