McGuire hits 7th homer, Benet ends losing streak

Maeve McGuire's 2-run homer, her seventh of the year, snapped a 7-7 tie and ignited a seven-run Benet sixth inning, and the No. 3 Redwings snapped a three-game skid with a 16-9 win at York on Thursday.

Abbie Gerth also went deep for Benet (17-5), going 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, and Marissa Panko was 3-for-6 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Abby Solem homered and drove in 3 runs and Isabella Jaeger was 3-for-4 with a triple, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI for York (13-12).

Naperville Central 10, Wheaton North 0:

Keegan Hayes (19-0) and Julie Kestas combined one a 1-hitter with 9 strikeouts, Lisa Tassi had 2 hits with a triple and an RBI and the No. 1 Redhawks (28-0, 12-0 DuPage Valley Conference) wrapped up the outright DVC championship. Kaitlyn Skarecky went 3-for-4, Lindsay Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a walk and Maddi Doane doubled twice for Naperville Central, which last won the DVC in 1989.

Waubonsie Valley 10, Metea Valley 0:

Shannon Hohman fired a 2-hitter, striking out nine, and Amanda Minahan was 4-for-4 with a double, triple and 4 RBI for the No. 11 Warriors (17-5, 11-3 Upstate Eight Valley).

Willowbrook 12, Leyden 0:

Darian Pelsor twirled a one-hitter, and Sam Schmidt went 4-for-4 with a triple and 2 runs scored as part of a 15-hit attack for the Warriors (14-7, 7-2 West Suburban Gold), who won their seventh straight game.

Lisle 10, Dwight 4:

The visiting Lions erupted for 8 runs in the top of the seventh, rallying to snap a five-game losing streak. Kristin Holub homered, and Kristina Fernette and Abby Tarasewicz both went 3-for-4 for the Lions (11-9, 7-8 Interstate Eight Conference).

Glenbard North 5, WW South 0:

Lindsey Cherry (13-4) scattered 4 hits and 2 walks, striking out eight, for the No. 5 Panthers (18-4, 9-3 DVC). Sydney Benz was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Stephanie Campos drove in a pair of runs.
