Bridgestone's plant in Bloomington-Normal is cutting 23 positions.

A spokesman for Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations says a slowdown in residential and commercial construction and mining has lowered demand for off-road tires.

Jeremy Smith says that has forced the company to make "production adjustments" at the off-road tire plant in central Illinois.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that the company did not say exactly when the jobs would be eliminated.

As of December, the plant employed about 500 people.

The newspaper reported that it was unclear if the job losses would affect two major expansion plans for the plant that were announced in December.
