Senior all-conference pick Kyle Phillips had 3 goals to help visiting Elk Grove past Barrington 8-5 in a play-in game of the Fremd boys water polo sectional Tuesday.
Chris Dovult also had 3 goals, Alex Collazo had 2 and Anthony Stacey made 10 saves in goal for the Grens (13-13).
All-conference sophomore Chase Lesniak led the Broncos (10-19) with 4 goals. Nick Cogswell had 1 and goalie Sean McCarthy had 10 saves.
No. 9 seed Elk Grove advances to a 4:30 p.m. Thursday contest against No. 1 seed Conant (27-3).
• St. Viator handled Rolling Meadows 17-7 in a Fremd sectional play-in game. The Lions (13-13) advance to meet No. 2 seed Fremd (23-7) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
• In the Glenbrook North sectional, the Spartans eliminated Maine West with a 17-13 decision.
• In the Mundelein sectional, Wheeling advanced with a 10-2 victory over Deerfield. The seventh-seeded Wildcats (9-19) meet No. 2 Lake Forest (17-8) in a 7 p.m. Thursday quarterfinal.
