The Des Plaines City Council agreed Monday to waive permit fees for flood-related repairs to properties affected by the April 18 flooding.

Residents are still required to have city building code inspectors review their flood-damaged properties and apply for permits before beginning any repair work, said Alex Dambach, the city's director of community and economic development. The inspections apply to all damaged structures and structures within the designated floodplain. Once city inspectors complete their assessment, a written determination will be mailed to the owners.

More than 2,000 properties were likely affected by last month's flooding, city officials estimate. All repairs, reconstruction, and new construction will require a permit, which will be expedited. For more information, residents should call the Community and Economic Development Department at (847) 391-5380 during regular business hours.
