Garbage stickers will cost at least 10 percent less starting July 1 under a five-year contract the Geneva City Council approved Monday.

The council voted 9-0 to sign with Advanced Disposal Services Solid Waste Midwest LLC.

It is the same firm the Batavia City Council contracted with April 15. Batavians will also pay less for refuse stickers.

Residents of both towns will pay $2.85 per sticker the first year, beginning July 1. It will rise to $3.40 in the fifth year.

Both towns will also convert to using wheeled recycling toters, instead of small bins.

Geneva's garbage pickup days will remain Thursday and Friday. Batavia's days will change to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Also at Monday's council meeting, Mayor Kevin Burns, City Clerk Lynn Landberg, Treasurer Patrick McQueeny and Aldermen Richard Marks, Don Cummings, Dawn Vogelsberg and Mike Bruno took the oath of office.

The council also appointed Alderman Richard Marks as mayor pro tem for the year.
