Arlington's Derby Day crowd tops 23,000

Thanks to good weather, a large racing field and lots of Kentucky Derby interest, Arlington International Racecourse drew 23,186 fans to the track on Saturday.

That fan total represents the highest attendance at Arlington since the track became host of live racing plus the Derby simulcast in 2006.

Wagering at Arlington for the Derby Day crowd also was $138 percent higher than a year ago. Total all-source wagering on Arlington's 12-race card was more than $4.55 million, track officials said.

Arlington's 89-day meet runs Sept. 29.
