Barrett a good name for Palatine facility

The front page article of 4/14 on a permanent supportive housing development in Palatine was like Christmas in April for me.

For almost 30 years, my husband and I have followed our mentally ill daughter through institutions, social service agencies and various housing locations in this area. At present, she is in a safe, stable environment. For other parents/guardians facing similar problems, this plan is welcome news!

The choice of name for the Palatine facility is most appropriate. Catherine Barrett is a longtime advocate for the mentally ill and very deserving of this honor. We met years ago at a NAMI meeting in the Arlington Heights Library and she has been a beacon of hope for us through the years. It is wonderful that her work and that of the North/Northwest Suburban Task Force on Supportive Housing for People with Mental Illness, UP Development, the Kenneth Young Center and the Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health will soon be evident to all.

Thank you to Palatine for being a leader in recognizing the need for this facility.
