York’s walkoff homer gives Benet sweep

Emily York hit a walkoff homer leading off the bottom of the seventh inning, giving No. 3 Benet an 8-7 win over Marian Catholic to sweep the doubleheader in Chicago Heights.

York and Stephanie Abello both hit 3-run homers, for Abello her area-leading 11th of the season, in Benet’s 12-7 Benet Game 1 win. Marissa Panko and Maeve McGuire both went deep in the second game for the Redwings (16-2, 9-1 East Suburban Catholic Conference).

Glenbard South 5, York 4:Tarah Valdez scored the game-winning run on a close play at the plate with one out in the bottom of the seventh as the No. 8 Raiders (17-3) rallied with 2 runs in their final at-bat. Danielle Scarpiniti walked with one out, Valdez singled and when Aimee Gerherdt#146;s single was misplayed in the outfield the tying and winning runs came around to score. Stephanie Chitkowski (8-1) struck out nine for the Raiders. Payton Carli and Ashley Cohen were both 2-for-3 with a run scored.Abby Solem was 2-for-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and an RBI and Gracie Sullivan drove in 2 runs for York (13-10), which had a six-game winning streak snapped.Glenbard East 3-4, Glenbard West 0-18:Shelley Warmolts was 5-for-6 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, and Jacklyn Tyburk 4-for-5 with a double and 4 RBI in Game 2 as the Hilltoppers gained a doubleheader split. Kara Tadda scattered 10 hits and 5 walks, striking out two, and also doubled and drove in a run for Glenbard East in Game 1. Brittany Plimmer went 2-for-4 and scored 2 runs.IC Catholic Prep 7, St. Joseph 0:Catherine Klosterman struck out 12 batters, and Melissa Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in 4 runs for the Knights (11-8). Jessica Conenna was 4-for-4 with a triple, 2 runs scored and an RBI.IC Catholic Prep 5, Wheaton Academy 1:Jessica Conenna struck out 10 on the mound, doubled twice and drove in a run for the Knights (12-8). Lindsey Montoya was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. For Wheaton Academy, Marissa Gagliano was 2-for-3 and scored her team#146;s only run.Glenbard North 14-12, Hinsdale South 0-5:Sydney Benz was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, a triple, 3 runs scored and an RBI in Game 1, and Stephanie Campos 3-for-5 with a double, home run, 4 runs scored and 2 RBI for the No. 4 Panthers (16-3) in the second game. Heather Sperlazzo drove in 4 runs in the first game, Cece Dopart (5-0) struck out five and Lindsey Cherry (11-3) struck out six in Game 2. Brittany Clark also homered.
