In a slugfest that included 21 hits between the teams, Libertyville was better at capitalizing.
The Wildcats, who had 11 hits, got 2 apiece out of Matt Vogt, Kevin Calamari (2 doubles), Jimmy Govern and Justin Guarnaccio in a 12-5 victory over Lake Zurich on Saturday.
Guarnaccio also drove in 3 runs while Calamari drove in 2 runs.
Lake Zurich, meanwhile, left 12 runners stranded on 10 hits. The Bears also committed 5 errors to just 1 error for Libertyville.
Joey Holtz led Lake Zurich with 3 hits. On the mound, Matt Reed got the win for the Wildcats.
Antioch sweeps: Antioch improved to 14-8 by sweeping its North Suburban Conference crossover doubleheader against Zion-Benton, 8-4, 5-3.
In the first game, Jerry LaSaint had 2 hits while Adam Harvey drove in 3 runs. Pitcher Mitch Everett got the win. He went the distance and rolled up 6 strikeouts. In the second game, Harvey had a double and drove in 2 runs while pitcher David Rzewnicki got the win. He pitched 6 innings and gave up no earned runs.
Carmel splits: Dalton Wright pitched a complete game to help Carmel get a 5-2 victory in a doubleheader against Marist. The Corsairs dropped the other game, 4-0. Wright rolled up 5 strikeouts and did not allow a walk. Offensively in the win, Tyler Murphy was 2-for-3 with a double while Matt Ryan had a triple and Ian Kristan added a double.
