Audit finds problems at Chicago’s animal shelter

An audit of Chicago's animal shelter has found that the stray, lost and impounded dogs and cats aren't always getting of care they need.
The Chicago Sun-times reports that the city's Inspector General's office audit revealed a host of problems, including inadequate staffing and a failure to provide many neglected or abused animals veterinary exams within 24 hours of arrival as is required by the city's Commission on Animal Care and Control policy.
A release by the inspector general's office says the audit found problems with record keeping, pointing out that five animals were shown still being housed at the shelter even though they had actually been adopted more than a month prior to the audit.
The audit recommends the shelter fill vacancies as soon as possible.
