The Entrepreneurial Spirit Blossoms on Main Street, West Chicago

West Chicago, IL: May 1, 2013 - The entrepreneurial spirit is alive in West Chicago. Event coordinator Kissel Davila and professional florist Clara Alvarez have dovetailed their unique talents to open a new downtown business. Blossom Events, located at 112 Main Street specializes in floral arrangements and centerpieces, unique gifts and special event planning services.

“We are a full service flower shop where people can feel free to bring their ideas. We will make them blossom!” said Davila. Between Alvarez' skill in floral arrangements for any occasion and the event planning talents that Davila brings to the business, the two hope to corner the local market on weddings, quinceaneras, birthdays, baby and bridal showers and any other of life's many milestones which call for celebration.

“From centerpieces to a Mariachi or the entire event planning, we would love to help people enjoy their special occasions without any worries,” said Davila who began her career by helping friends with their weddings. From there, the referrals started pouring in. “My parents are pastors of a church and this certainly helped me get started and gain experience,” she said.

Both co-owners had home-based businesses previously, but felt it was time to expand into a retail storefront. The shop is a colorful addition to Main Street and takes full advantage of the large arched windows of its storefront to display merchandise ranging from fresh flowers, specialty balloons, gift items, cookie baskets and more.

When asked how the two landed in a West Chicago location, Davila explained it came about serendipitously. “We came to West Chicago to look at the display cases the previous business owner had for sale here. We fell in love with the building and felt it was perfect for us. I really like the windows.” Another aspect of the downtown location appealed to their business sense, “I find many businesses that blend well with my event planning—hair stylists, a bridal boutique, nail salons, bakeries and a printer, plus the Legion for hall rentals”.

The pedestrian-friendly ambiance of the historic downtown was another draw. “I notice so many people walk in West Chicago, which is great. We are thinking of having some workshops and classes, not only for adults, but children. We really like this community,” Davila said.

Blossom Events is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. For more information, call (630) 231-5880.
