Dundee-Crown to induct 5 into Hall of Fame
The Dundee-Crown Athletic Hall of Fame has announced it will induct four former athletes and one former coach as its 2013 induction class.
Melissa Tarrant Haugens, Roger Warren, Kevin Kepp, Chris Jensen and Mike Steinhaus will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony early next school year.
Haugens is a 2001 D-C graduate who played basketball and volleyball. She was the leading scorer in the Fox Valley Conference for 2000-01 and was selected as the honorary co-captain of the Daily Herald's Fox Valley all-area team that season. She was a three-time all-area player and a special mention all-state player. She led the Chargers to one FVC and two regional championships and advanced to the IHSA 3-point finals, finishing in the top 8.
She went on to play on scholarship at Youngstown State. She is currently a math teacher at Hampshire High School.
Warren coached at Irving Crown and Dundee-Crown from 1978-86. He was head boys golf coach during that time, winning the FVC championship in 1984. He was also the Chargers' head boys basketball coach in 1985-86 and was an assistant basketball and baseball coach.
Warren has been a member of the Professional Golfers Association since 1990. He has been the director of golf at Village Links and Seven Bridges, has served as president of the PGA from 2004-06 and was a 2006 inductee to the PGA Hall of Fame. Warren is currently the president of the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina, which was the host of the 2012 PGA Championship.
Jensen is a 1978 Dundee High graduate who played football, baseball, basketball and golf. He was a unanimous all-conference selection in 1978 as well as team MVP and is the school's career home run leader. He played football and baseball at Harper College before becoming a second-team All-America football player at Lake Forest College, leading his team to its first conference title in 25 years.
Kepp is a 1981 Crown alum who played baseball, basketball and golf. He was a two-year all-conference selection in baseball and a 1981 special mention all-stater. In basketball, he was Crown's all-time assist record-holder and led the Vikings to a regional title and sectional final in 1981 when he was honorable mention all-state. Kepp is currently a finance executive in Gilbert, Ariz.
Steinhaus is a 2002 D-C product who played football, basketball and baseball. He was a two-time all-area football player who went on to play four years at Ball State, where he won the Ray Louthen Senior Inspiration Award. Steinhaus is currently a physical education instructor and coach at Dundee-Crown.
