Northwest suburban schools get high financial marks

School districts in the Northwest suburbs scored well in the latest Financial Profile report compiled each year by the Illinois State Board of Education. The report tracks the financial health of districts statewide and then assigns each one a score that places it into one of four categories: Financial Watch, Early Warning, Financial Review or Financial Recognition.

Most suburban districts scored well enough to land in the top category, Financial Recognition. Wheeling Elementary District 21 was placed in the Financial Review category, the next one down, but its overall score improved over last year.

The local districts’ performance comes as 100 districts statewide fell out of the Financial Recognition category this year, something the state board attributes in part to recent cuts in education funding.
