SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — One person has died and another was treated for smoke inhalation at an apartment fire in Sheboygan.

Fire officials say a man who lived on the lower level of the 16-unit apartment building died in the fire Tuesday morning. Sheboygan Fire Chief Jeff Hermann tells WISN-TV a room in the victim's apartment exploded in flames.

Hermann says firefighters couldn't get down the second-floor hallway of the apartment building so they used ladders to reach the residents.

Hermann says fire was contained to the unit where the body was found. He says other apartments sustained smoke damage. One resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
