Holmes closes victory for WW South

WW South 2, West Chicago 1:

Baylor Holmes stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Tigers (12-7, 7-3) hung on in the DuPage Valley Conference. Ryan Koester drove in the lone run for West Chicago (3-13, 0-8) while Connor Dall had 2 hits. Kevin Giltz went 2-for-3 with an RBI for WW South. Winning pitcher Rich O'Neil allowed 5 hits in 6-plus innings.

Wheaton North 11, West Aurora 0:

The Falcons (15-3, 8-2) moved into a three-way tie for first place in the DuPage Valley Conference with the six-inning road victory. Lake Bachar went 2-for-4 with a home run and 5 RBI. Johnny Peltz went 3-for-4 and Michael Mannix added 2 hits. Winning pitcher Sam Nafziger allowed 2 hits.

Lake Park 5-5, Metea Valley 4-4:

The Lancers (16-4, 12-3) scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning in Game 1 and a run in the bottom of the seventh of Game 2 to cap the three-game Upstate Eight Conference sweep. Dom Romito's RBI single won the opener and Eric Vatch doubled home the winning run in the second game. Tamal Kumar and Andrew Fox had 3 hits apiece in Game 1 for Metea Valley (5-11, 4-9).

Benet 3-4, Marist 1-2:

Chris Whelan and Pat McInerney posted complete-game East Suburban Catholic Conference victories for the Redwings (12-5, 4-2). McInerney drove in 2 runs in Game 1 and Joe Giuffre went 3-for-4. Kevin Jendra went 2-for-3 with a triple and 3 RBI in the second game.

Addison Trail 2-3, Leyden 1-5:

The Blazers (7-12, 5-6) scored both runs in fourth inning of their Game 1 West Suburban Gold victory. Giancarlo Loiotile and Mike Cacioppo, who went 2-for-3, drove in the runs. Winning pitcher Joe Kurucar scattered 6 hits over 6 innings. Brad Schonder went 3-for-4 with a double and home run in Game 2.

Lisle 8, Wilmington 5:

Cliff Krause, who drove in 3 runs, and Jeremy Glavanovits homered for the Lions (11-6, 7-2) in their Interstate Eight Conference win. Ryan Van Volkenburg and Adam Grego had 2 hits apiece. Brian Czyl pitched 5 innings to earn the victory.

Glenbard South 7, Oswego East 5:

The Raiders (12-3) overcame a seventh-inning rally by Oswego East to pull out the nonconference victory. Zach Smith went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI while winning pitcher Nick Yangas went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Will Cornwell doubled and drove in 2 runs.

Neuqua Valley 11-12, East Aurora 0-1:

Drew Sterioti went 3-for-4 with a double in the opener and John Michael McMahon drove in 3 runs in Game 2 of the Upstate Eight Conference sweep by the Wildcats (13-7, 10-4). Don Ortegal and Nick Shields were the winning pitchers.

St. Francis 6, Hersey 5:

Jack Petrando went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI while Jack Ciombor had 2 RBI for the Spartans (9-7) in their nonconference victory. Jake Radel was the complete-game winning pitcher.

Downers North 8, Glenbard West 0:

Mike O'Malley pitched a 4-hitter with 5 strikeouts and no walks for the Trojans (14-3, 10-1) in their West Suburban Silver Conference victory. Conner Kopach and James Sheldon had 2 RBI apiece. Spencer Refer went 2-for-3 for Glenbard West (6-13, 4-10).

Hinsdale Central 17-1, York 1-2:

The Red Devils (11-5, 7-4) smacked 17 hits in their Game 1 West Suburban Silver victory. Chris Botsoe went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and 3 RBI. Jacob White also drove in 3 runs. Alec Hutcherson homered. Winning pitcher Bobby Skogsbergh allowed 5 hits. River Pitlock scattered 5 hits in the second game for York (9-11, 5-8), which received 2-hit performances from Seth Dvorak and Tyler Zunkel.

Hinsdale South 2-6, Morton 0-0:

Mike Rizzo and Matt Reschke pitched back-to-back shutouts, allowing a combined 7 hits as the Hornets (14-5, 9-5) swept in the West Suburban Gold. Rizzo went 3-for-4 in the opener while Reschke drove in 2 runs in Game 2 and Don Buonavolanto homered.

St. Edward 7, Wheaton Academy 3:

Jake Cousins, John McKenna and Peter Ferrill had 2 hits apiece for the Warriors (1-12, 0-9) in their Suburban Christian Conference loss. Ferrill had 2 RBI.
