NAPERVILLE LEGION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO AREA SENIORS

Claire Halffield of Naperville Central High School' and Christian Yon of Benet Academy, have been awarded $1,500 Scholarships by Naperville American Legion Post 43.

To be eligible for the scholarships, a student must be a graduating senior who has participated in one of the Post-sponsored youth programs, including Boys and Girls State, Scouting, Sea Cadets, and Oratorical contests, or be related to a member of Post 43.

Applicants are judged on academic achievement, honors, leadership in their school and community, patriotic involvement, and an essay describing their educational, career, and life goals, and plans for achieving them.

Ms. Halffield is President of the Senior Class, photo editor of the year book, and active in multiple organizations. She carries a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of the National Honor Society. She plans a career in journalism.

Mr. Yon is an Illinois State Scholar, a National Merit finalist and he carries a cumulative weighted, core subject grade point average of 99.3%. He plays guitar and soccer, attended Dr. Rubin's mini-medical school for high school students, and plans to attend medical school after college.

The American Legion is the Nation's largest veteran's organization.
