‘Drowsy Chaperone’ on stage at Lake Zurich H.S. April 26-27

Submitted by David Harmon, Lake Zurich High School

The Lake Zurich High School Fine Arts Department is proud to present the musical comedy “The Drowsy Chaperone,” winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

This “show within a show” begins when a die-hard musical enthusiast presents his favorite musical, a show from the 1920s called “The Drowsy Chaperone.” The album immediately bursts to life and the audience is introduced to Janet, a pampered Broadway star about to give up the limelight for her fiancee. Her producer, desperate to keep Janet onstage, sets out to sabotage the wedding and hilarity ensues. Caught in the crossfire is a colorful cast of characters including a “tipsy” chaperon, a groom on skates, a Spanish prima donna, a bumbling old woman, her unamused butler and a pair of pastry chefs with ties to the mob.

While tailored toward more mature audiences, “The Drowsy Chaperone” has something for everyone with its lively score, larger-than-life characters and an airplane onstage. “The Drowsy Chaperone” is one of the zaniest, laugh-out-loud shows to hit the L.Z.H.S. PAC stage.

Upcoming performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27, at the Lake Zurich High School Performing Arts Center, 300 Church St., Lake Zurich. Ticket prices are $10 for students and $12 for adults both online and at the door. To reserve tickets visit www.lz95.net/pac.
