Two Antioch men charged in thefts

By Lee Filas

Two men have been charged in connection with several thefts and burglaries involving businesses and vehicles in downtown Antioch, authorities said.

Arthur E. Sagel, 30, of the 200 block of Joanna Court, and Wyatt W. Lee, 28, of the 400 block of Donin Drive, both from Antioch, are held in Lake County jail on $50,000 bond, authorities said.

Police Chief Craig Somerville said Sagel was charged with eight counts of theft, two counts of burglary, and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Lee was charged with a single count of theft.

Somerville said officers were investigating a series of crimes in the downtown area, and followed a lead to a potential suspect living at the Joanna Court Apartments.

Sagel and Lee were identified as being involved in the burglaries, Somerville said, and were taken into custody April 16.

He said police were able to close four open cases with their arrest, including an 18-month-old burglary at Foods Unlimited on North Avenue.

Both men are due in court April 22.

"Sagel and Lee were actively committing crimes in and around our community," Somerville said. "These subjects took at active approach to victimizing our residents and Antioch Police took an active approach to putting them out of business."
