What coach Adam DeCaluwe called “some of the sloppiest of conditions” couldn’t deter Chelsea Olson on a rainy-and-cold Tuesday.
The junior scored less than a minute into overtime to give visiting Grayslake North a 2-1 win over Crystal Lake Central in its Fox Valley Conference Fox Division opener.
Olson controlled a throw-in from freshman Ashleigh Hansen, “showed good composure to create a shooting opportunity,” DeCaluwe said, and calmly shot the ball to the far corner. The ball hit the post and went in.
Grayslake North (4-5-1) opened the scoring less than 10 minutes into the second half, as freshman Kendall Buchman collected a loose ball off Kendall Detweiler’s corner kick and finished. The lead didn’t last long, however.
Knights freshman keeper Abby Rice helped get the match to overtime by making 4 saves.
“Team effort,” DeCaluwe said. “Each one of the girls played their hearts out in a game played in terrible conditions. This truly was one of the best team efforts we have seen so far this season.”
Grayslake Central 3, Woodstock 0: Savannah Mudd scored a pair of unassisted goals, and Kajal Chokshi stopped 3 shots for her sixth shutout, as the Rams improved to 7-1-1 and 2-0 in the Fox Valley Fox.
Grant 3, Lakes 1: Nina Deligio and Jenna Pecorini each had a goal and an assist for the host Bulldogs in the North Suburban Prairie Division contest.
Alyssa Wilhelm also scored for Grant (6-5, 3-1), while Leah Nehila contributed an assist. Bulldogs keeper Ana Rodas made 7 saves.Copyright © 2013 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
