Advocate Condell, Village of Libertyville offer Bike Safety Rodeo

Advocate Condell Medical Center is offering community education lectures and screenings on a wide range of health issues in May.

All programs are free unless noted. Registration is required. Participants will interact with clinicians and receive information on hospital and other health services.

Advocate Condell/Village of Libertyville Bike Safety Rodeo

Sunday, May 5, noon-3 pm, Advocate Condell Conference Center, 700 Garfield Ave., Libertyville. Test your skills on our obstacle course, and receive a safety certificate! Make sure your helmet fits properly, learn about bicycle and traffic safety, and get a goodie bag! Visit with Flight for Life and other organizations. This event is open to children of all ages, and is being presented in partnership with Libertyville Bicycle Commission, Countryside Fire Protection District, Libertyville Fire Department, Libertyville Police Department and many local businesses. Gait and Balance Analysis

Monday, May 6, 9-11 am; Tuesday, May 7, 8:30-10 am; Wednesday, May 8, 5-7:30 pm; and Thursday, May 9, 8:30-9:30 am. All classes at Advocate Condell's Libertyville Centre Club, 200 W. Golf Road. Our physical therapists can tell a lot about you, just by the way you walk. Spend a few minutes on our Gait Rite electronic gait analysis mat while we analyze 16 facets of your gait. This tool is often used by elite athletes looking to improve performance, but also can identify those at risk for falling and injury. Gait changes also can be a sign of other health issues, making this prevention tool even more important. Participants will receive results and recommendations on the day of the screening, with results shared with your physician. This program is open to any adult who can walk unassisted. Golf Swing Clinic at LCFPD's Free Golf Lesson Day

Saturday, May 11, 11 am-3 pm, Countryside Golf Club Driving Range Tee, 20800 W. Hawley St., Mundelein. The impact and stress of the repetitive motion of the golf swing is sometimes hard on the muscles and joints, especially if you ignore the early warning signs of injury. Advocate Condell Medical Center's physical therapy team will analyze your grip and swing mechanics, and alert you to movements that might be cause injury to your lower back, elbows, shoulders, or hands and wrists. Foot Forum: Preventing Sports Injuries

Tuesday, May 21, 6:30 pm, Centre Club Libertyville, 200 W. Golf Road. Hyim Joshua Baronofsky, MD, Board Certified Podiatric Surgeon, will discuss sports-related foot injury and prevention, and answer your questions. Free. For more information and to register, call 847.816.6100.

Just for Kids: Summer Basketball Camp

Does your child love basketball? Sign him or her up for a one-week skills clinic taught by NCC and NBA star CerCi Mahone. Several sessions are scheduled for June and July at Centre Club Libertyville, 200 W. Golf Road in Libertyville, and Centre Club Gurnee, 1405 N. Hunt Club Road in Gurnee. Mahone will teach K-8th graders basketball basics using the same techniques as the pros. Focus on dribbling, shooting, passing and catching, footwork, and more.
