Crystal Lake man dies from crash injuries

A 23-year-old Crystal Lake man died early Sunday, a week after he was involved in an off-roading motocross bike accident, officials said.

Kyle Pratt was pronounced dead at 12:32 a.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Pratt had been involved in a motorcycle crash on April 13 on the Com Ed property located to the west of Terra Cotta Road and south of Nunda Trail, in unincorporated Crystal Lake, according to the McHenry County sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s officials, McHenry County Conservation Police, Crystal Lake police and fire officials responded to the crash at 5:21 p.m. April 13, according to a news release issued by the county sheriff’s office earlier this week.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Pratt’s Suzuki Motocross bike was traveling east on the ComEd property, beneath high-voltage power lines, when he lost control for unknown reasons. Pratt was ejected from his bike and hit a chain-link fence.

Pratt was originally taken to Centegra Hospital McHenry and later airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he died Sunday.

According to the release, Pratt was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled Pratt’s death an accident.
