Multiple departments battle Lake Zurich house fire

Nearly 20 suburban fire departments assisted Lake Zurich with a four-alarm house fire on Sunday night that sent two people to the hospital and injured one firefighter, officials said.

At 7:45 p.m. Sunday, the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 21000 block of Glendale Road in an unincorporated area near Lake Zurich, according to a news release.

When the first units arrived they found a two-story single-family home with fire and smoke showing from the front of the home and heavy smoke from the rear of the second story.

It was initially reported that an occupant was potentially trapped in a second-floor bedroom, but the resident was found safe across the street, according to the release.

One occupant and one bystander were treated and transported to Good Shepherd Hospital with non life-threatening injuries while several other residents of the home were uninjured, according to the release

Paramedics on the scene also treated and released one firefighter for minor injuries, officials said.

The fire was under control within about 70 minutes.

The following departments assisted Lake Zurich on scene: Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Countryside, Deerfield, Fox River Grove, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Lake Bluff, Lake Villa, Long Grove, Mundelein, Nunda, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Round Lake, Schaumburg, Wauconda and Wheeling fire departments. The Algonquin, Antioch, Crystal Lake, Highland Park, Lake Bluff and Mount Prospect fire departments provided station coverage while Lake Zurich officials were at the scene.

The fire is currently under investigation and the cause is yet to be determined.

An estimate of damages was not available Sunday night.
