A number of roads have been closed in Mount Prospect as officials scramble to deal with local flooding. As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the following roads were closed:
ź River Road between Milwaukee Road and Euclid Avenue
ź Eastbound Seminole Lane at Burning Bush Lane
ź Eastbound Camp McDonald Road at Park Drive
There is localized street flooding north of Euclid to Seminole and west to Burning Bush. Also there is some street flooding on Hatlen Avenue. Public Works crews are pumping storm water out of the sewers in the northeast part of the community adjacent to the Des Plaines River. The Village has also constructed a flood wall to supplement the Levee wall along the river. Public Works will continue to pump water throughout the night.
Residents who want to report flooded basements can call the village’s public works department at (847) 870-5640. Public works crews are not able to remove water from inside homes, however. The village does not have any sandbags available for residents.
So far, no formal evacuation orders have been issued, Assistant Village Manager Dave Strahl said. For those residents who wish to leave their homes, the village has listed the names and phone numbers of nearby hotels on its website, mountprospect.org. The village will issue additional flood updates as warranted throughout the day Thursday.
Also, River Trails Elementary District 26 has announced that due to the weather, after-school activities at River Trails Middle School in Mount Prospect have been canceled for Thursday. Activities at Indian Grove and Euclid elementary schools will proceed as scheduled.Copyright © 2014 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
