Six Elk Grove roads closed for evening rush

By Madhu Krishnamurthy

Elk Grove Village officials said Thursday that significant flooding has left many roads closed for the evening rush hour, but that the problems mostly are in the places which have been affected by past heavy rains.

"There's no unusual flooding in Elk Grove Village and we're on top of everything," Mayor Craig Johnson said.

Roadways that remain closed include:

Elk Grove Boulevard from Reverend Morrison Boulevard to Crest Avenue

Reverend Morrison Boulevard from Brantwood Avenue to Elk Grove Boulevard

Cypress Lane from Reverend Morrison Boulevard to Jefferson Square

Devon Avenue from Somerset Lane to Carlisle Avenue

Landmeier Road between Higgins Road and Elmhurst Road

Elmhurst Road -- partial closures near Landmeier Road For east-west travel, the village asked motorists to consider using Higgins Road and Thorndale Avenue. For north-south travel, the village asked motorists to consider using Busse Road on the east side of the community and Meacham Road for the west side of the community.

For those living along Salt Creek, the village dropped off sand and sandbags. Residents will be responsible for filling their own bags. The sand was dropped off around noon at the following locations:

Cypress Lane & Mulberry Lane

Cypress Lane & Mimosa Lane

Cypress Lane & Placid Way

Cypress Lane & Brookhaven Drive

Brantwood Avenue & Grassmere Road

Essex Road & Clearmont Drive
