Missing Elgin man found

A 24-year-old man with autism who wandered away from his home in Elgin Thursday afternoon has been found after a 10-hour search, police said.

Terrence Ivery showed up safe at a relative’s home in Chicago Thursday evening, according to a news release.

He had last been seen about 1 p.m. in downtown Bartlett. There was a possibility Ivery was headed toward Chicago, because that’s where he lived before moving to Elgin four months ago.

The Elgin Police Department offers a program to residents called “Family Finder.” The names of individuals who have the propensity to become disoriented and/or lost are entered into a database along with photographs and other pertinent information, which would be used in the event a person goes missing.

Individuals wishing to sign up a loved one may do so online through the police department website at www.cityofelgin.org.
