Sign up for acting workshops at Vero Voce

Submitted by Vero Voce School of Performing Arts

Vero Voce School of Visual and Performing Arts presents a number of theater classes this spring at its facility at 951 State Ave., Suite F, St. Charles.

A new date has been set for the Imagination Workshop, and flexibility is now offered for when students can start the Audition Class and Beginning and Advanced Scene Study. Registration is now open.

The theater classes are led by David M. Rodriguez, who has trained in the Imagination Technique at the Stella Adler Academy of Acting in Los Angeles. His training has earned him acclaim both onstage and in film, awarding him Indie Fest’s Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in the film “El Percance Perfecto.”

타 Imagination Workshop will be held four Saturdays, April 20 to May 11, from 9 to 10:25 a.m. This is an introduction to the world of theater for younger actors. Instead of using scripts, students will use their mind and body to convey emotions and scenarios, allowing the actors to fully grasp the importance of making choices and understanding the specificity of certain situations.

The instructor will help students prepare believably performed “actions.” With each action, students will create environments and scenarios to perform in, all while truthfully maintaining character and surrounding.

Tuition is $75 for the four weeks.

타 Audition Class is Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:55 a.m. A rolling admission has been established where students can begin their seven-week course on the Saturday of their choice. Each student will have multiple taped mock auditions.

Students will be emailed a “side” the evening prior to class, which they will prepare for their mock audition. The first few auditions will be from mainstream films the students may have seen. Scenes used for audition material later in the class will be completely unfamiliar to the students.

Instruction will focus on making the strongest decisions possible based on the information the student has been given. Students will be instructed on proper attire for specific auditions and what is considered to be professionalism in the theater/film community.

Tuition is $147 for seven consecutive sessions.

타 Beginning Scene Study is Saturdays from noon to 1:25 p.m. A rolling admission has been established where students can begin their six-week course on the Saturday of their choice.

This introductory course will focus on scene breakdown, character development, and the significance of proper blocking. Scenes will be presented to the students based on their strengths and weaknesses, per the instructor. The final class will include a brief performance for an invited audience of family and friends.

Tuition is $110 for six consecutive sessions.

타 Advanced Scene Study is held Saturdays from 1:30 to 2:55 p.m. A rolling admission has been established where students can begin their six-week course on the Saturday of their choice. The advanced course will be much more intensive and will produce scenes of performance quality.

This course is used by the students to truly hone their skills onstage. The final class will include a brief performance for an invited audience of family and friends.

Tuition is $110 for six consecutive sessions. Please note that a successful audition is required for this course. Audition appointments can be made by calling (630) 584-0139 and leave a message to schedule an audition.
