Lincoln Middle School to perform ‘Annie’ April 19-20

Lincoln Middle School in Mount Prospect will present the musical “Annie” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 19-20, in the Busse Gym at Lincoln, 700 W. Lincoln St. Tickets are $4-$6 at the door.

The annual school musical is directed by Lincoln music teacher Leslie Thomas, with the help of District 57 music teachers Lisa Loeffler and Carolyn Story. The production includes more than 50 student cast members who auditioned for roles in late fall, plus two student directors and a stage crew. Student and parent volunteers help build, paint and change the sets and also run the lighting and sound for the performances.

“Annie,” a popular Broadway musical, is based on the “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip by Harold Gray. “Annie” won Tony Awards in 1977 for Best Musical and Best Original Score. The music is written by Charles Strouse with lyrics by Martin Charnin, and includes many family-favorites such as “Tomorrow,” “Hard Knock Life,” “Never Fully Dressed,” “Maybe,” “Easy Street” and “NYC.”
