Many thanks for Fittest Loser contest

I wanted to express my thanks to The Daily Herald for its sponsorship of the Fittest Loser contest. This year the contest was expanded to allow many individuals from the surrounding suburbs to participate via the Community Challenge. I was fortunate to be allowed on to one of these teams.

Having been an athlete in college 40 years ago, I knew what it was like to be in shape. But four decades and 50 extra pounds later I would find myself out of breath climbing up a set of stairs. After nine weeks into this challenge and with the help of the Schaumburg Park District and my trainer, Lee Collens, I have lost 32 pounds, 14.5 percent of my weight. I have now run two 5K races, and I can again look forward to competing in triathlons. This would not have been possible without the opportunity given my by the Daily Herald. Thank You!
