An American Airlines flight carrying 107 passengers made an emergency landing at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Friday afternoon because of a mechanical problem affecting its landing gear.

Airline spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan said the pilots of the flight from Orlando, Fla., declared an emergency as a precaution upon approach Friday afternoon.

She said there was a problem with one of the landing gear doors.

Fire crews were standing by, but the plane landed safely and no one was injured.

Fagan said the MD-80 aircraft experienced another, unrelated mechanical issue that had delayed its takeoff from Orlando.

Chicago Department of Aviation spokesman Gregg Cunningham said the aircraft was not immediately able to taxi off the runway upon landing. But a 20-minute closure of that runway did not cause any other flight delays.
