Women accused of human trafficking

Two Wisconsin women are charged with human trafficking involving a girl in Illinois.

According to the Cook County sheriff’s office, Elizabeth Roeder of Milwaukee and Shannon Hathaway of Stoughton were charged with involuntary servitude of a minor and trafficking for labor/benefits.

Bail was set Saturday at $175,000 for the 41-year-old Hathaway and $150,000 for the 33-year-old Roeder.

The sheriff’s department says investigators responded to an ad on the website Backpage.com. An undercover officer was offered sex in exchange for money Wednesday at the Super 8 Motel in River Grove, authorities allege.

Investigators say Roeder and Hathaway were placing ads with photos of the juvenile and themselves under “Escorts” in the adult section of the website.

The department says the victim was reunited with family.
