Cary-Grove gets No. 499 for Sutherland

Cary-Grove baseball coach Don Sutherland notched his 499th career win on Thursday when his Trojans belted Woodstock North 11-1 in a Fox Valley Conference game.

The Trojans will try to get their longtime mentor his 500th win at 10 a.m. Saturday in a game scheduled to be played at Grayslake North.

In Thursday's win, Cary-Grove (9-2) had just 4 hits but took advantage of 13 Woodstock North walks. Jeremy Vasquez and Matt Ewert each drove in 2 runs while Daniel Vilardo (RBI) and Dean Lee had doubles.

Dean Christakes went the distance for the Trojans, allowing 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.
